Bills Win Wild Game 27-21 on Back of Defense
The Buffalo Bills barely beat the New England Patriots today in their final home game of the season. The Bills forced four Pats turnovers, with two INTs coming directly from Rasul Douglas, including a pick-6. The Bills improve to 10-6 as they face the banged up Miami Dolphins next week for the division. Let’s get into the takeaways from this game.
Records are meant to be broken
After his 4 catch, 87 yard performance today, Dalton Kincaid broke Sammy Watkins’ single-season rookie receptions record.
Withhis two rushing scores today, Josh Allen tied Jalen Hurts’ record for single-season rushing TDs by a QB. Allen also becomes the first Bill with multiple rushing TDs in consecutive games since Willis McGahee in 2004.
Pass Rush gets home
The Bills sacked Bailey Zappe three times, Terrel Bernard twice and Ed Oliver once. The front seven also finished the day with eight QB hits. For most of the first half, the Von Miller-less pass rush was able to ruin his day and force errant throws. Besides the two Bernard sacks in the second half, it died down.
Bad day to be a Bills WR
The Buffalo Bills finished the day with four drops (all in the first half). Trent Sherfield, Dawson Knox, James Cook, and Stefon Diggs lead the Bills today in that category, and were a big factor in the offense stalling out most of the day.
Bills OL struggled all day
That may be the worst performance we’ve witnessed for the Buffalo Bills offensive line all season. They were getting manhandled all day, leaving rushers untouched, and not allowing Josh to set his feet on his throws. The Patriots defense is top tier, but that wasn’t a pretty game for the OL.
Injuries
The Bills obviously didn’t leave today with a clean bill of health. Josh Allen suffered a stinger right before the kneel downs. However, he told reporters he’ll be fine. Dawson Knox left the game in the first half to be evaluated for a head injury. He was later cleared to return and entered the game.
