Joe Milton, Tennessee, Buffalo Bills, Draft

It’s Round 7 of the 2024 Draft and the Buffalo Bills are on the clock. Who will the BF Writers select? Let’s dive in!

Jenna Carlson

Round (#)Selection
1 (28)WR Adonai Mitchell (Texas)
2 (56; via DAL)DL Ruke Orhorhoro (Clemson)
4 (112; via LV)S Cole Bishop (Utah)
5 (144)OT Roger Rosengarten (Washington)
5 (163)WR Luke McCaffrey (Rice)

Pick #248: LB Jaylan Ford – Texas

Despite the return of linebackers Matt Milano and Terrel Bernard from injury, the Bills are still lacking sufficient depth at the position. Veterans Tyrel Dodson and Tyler Matakevich left in free agency. However, they added Nicholas Morrow, so there is room for improvement. Jaylan Ford may be drafted late, but he provides meaningful starting experience (he started in 29 games at Texas) for a linebacker corps in need of it. Ford was the middle linebacker at Texas and he was always around the football. He had six interceptions and four forced fumbles in his final two seasons! I love his downhill tackling ability, too — he had a total of 27.5 tackles for loss and 287 tackles at Texas. Jaylan is not a high-level athlete, but he is a smart player and he would provide size (6’2” and 240 pounds) for a Bills linebacker room that is on the small side.

Round (#)Selection
1 (28)WR Adonai Mitchell (Texas)
2 (60)S Kamren Kinchens (Miami)
4 (112; via LV)WR Luke McCaffrey (Rice)
4 (133)CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr. (Louisville)
5 (144)DL DeWayne Carter (Duke)
5 (160)WR Johnny Wilson (Florida State)
5 (163)RB Isaac Guerendo (Louisville)
6 (200)IOL Tanor Bortolini (Wisconsin)

Pick #248: P Matthew Hayball – Vanderbilt

Buffalo rounds out its class with a special teams investment that can answer a problem we’ve had for a near-decade. Matthew Hayball is a great punter, with solid distance, good hangtime, and accuracy that makes scouts drool. A team captain at Vanderbilt, he’s got the maturity and personality to handle the pressure. He kicks a little slow, but that work in progress is already well underway. Is drafting a punter the right choice? Definitely; It would be nice to go a few years without having punter discourse, after all.

Round (#)Selection
1 (28)WR Xavier Legette (South Carolina)
2 (60)DT T’Vondre Sweat (Texas)
4 (128)CB Caelen Carson (Wake Forest)
4 (133)WR Luke McCaffrey (Rice)
5 (144)WR Isaiah Williams (Illinois)
5 (160)S Josh Proctor (Ohio State)
5 (163)DT Tyler Davis (Clemson)
6 (200)OT Ethan Driskell (Marshall)
6 (204)RB Jase McClellan (Alabama)

Pick #248: EDGE Jalen Green – James Madison

Green topped the nation in sacks and tackles for loss before a knee injury sidelined him in 2023. Standing at 6’1” and weighing 245 pounds, Green’s shorter strides may restrict his range, but he has solid technique. His agility and flexibility are arguably his strongest skills, complemented by his considerable power. The former JMU edge effectively employs his hands to keep offensive linemen on their toes defensively. As the Buffalo Bills seem to be making some big roster moves, who knows what Brandon Beane will do next… But I’m sure an edge such as Jalen Green isn’t completely out of the question.
