2022 Buffalo Bills Madden Sim Recap: Week 1

Well folks, like everyone in Bills Mafia, Rev and Z-Bot had trouble waiting for the 2022 Buffalo Bills season to start. So, they took things into their own hands and started Week 1 a little early. With a full game simulation, color commentary, and a LEGENDARY halftime show by the one and only ZZ-Bot, this is a game not to be missed.

So, let’s jump right into this win and discuss:

1) The commentators were SERVING

For the first game of the season, the boys knew the assignment and dressed to impress and putting the likes of Al Michaels to shame. Z-Bot was looking snazzy in a navy coat and dark grey t-shirt, topped off with a red Dave Matthews Band cap. On the other side of the booth, Rev was decked out in a Navy Suit, white button down shirt, black tie, and (of course) his signature black Bills cap. Just seeing this amount of effort made the excitement for the upcoming game reach whole new levels.

2) Bills Mafia does not disappoint

We all know the Mafia travels well, but how well? To answer that question, the broadcast was thrown to Evan Harrington, who was outside SoFi stadium to give an update on the tailgate situation. It was staggering to see so many of Bills Mafia out there. A quick spot also saw a CJ Spiller jersey, hoping to bring some good luck to rookie RB James Cook, who is also rocking #28. According to Harrington, there was also some table breaking BEFORE the game even started, so it’s safe to say everyone was excited for the season to begin.

3) Offense had a slow game

This was not the explosive offense that Bills Mafia came out to see. Allen completed 66.6% of his passes for just 108 yards. Of his 15 pass attempts, only two were deep, one of which came at a clutch moment. I have no idea what McDermott and Dorsey were thinking, but they were obviously not planning on incorporating the pass game. They need to head back to the drawing board and come up with something completely new for the rest of the season because, whatever this was, it wasn’t it.

4) Josh Allen is still that Dude

To compensate for the atrocious game plan, Allen once again put the team on his shoulders, or more accurately, his legs. Allen managed to bring the Buffalo Bills into FG range twice to allow Bass to stay on the Rams’ heels. Not only that, but in a clutch fourth quarter moment, Allen launched a 41-yard bomb to newly acquired Jamison Crowder to put the Bills firmly in the red zone, setting Bass up for the game winning FG. If there’s anything to build on going into the rest of the season, it’s that the team needs to put more trust in Allen and his ability.

Much like Rev, I think it’s safe to say that everyone here is a huge ZZ-Bot fan. So, when they announced that the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famer would be performing at halftime, I was ecstatic. And he killed it, as was obvious by the huge cheers echoing around the stadium. Even Rev couldn’t contain himself, singing in the background. Move over Eddie Munson.

6) All the Edmunds hate needs to stop

Tremaine Edmunds and his counterpart Matt Milano were the only thing standing between the Rams and victory. The young, fifth-year MLB proved what he could do when he has a solid D-Line in front of him. He made tackles all game long but especially late in the fourth quarter, as he made a huge stop on second down, ultimately forcing the Rams to kick a FG rather than go for the endzone. This guy will be getting an extension at the end of the season. Mark my words.

7) Defense needs to work on the ground

Despite a stellar performance by the aforementioned Edmunds and Milano, the Buffalo Bills ground defense still needs some work. With the addition of Von Miller, the hope was that the Bills wouldn’t fall into similar problems of yesteryear. But Cam Akers was still able to rush for 56 yards off of 14 carries. The defense just left the field wide open for him, as Z-Bot said, “you could drive a truck through those gaps”. They’ve still got work to do as, apparently, the offseason wasn’t enough.

8) Tyler Bass is still the NFL’s Swaggiest Kicker

T. Bass continued to show up, hitting all his FGs, which is more than can be said for the Rams’ kicker. The Bills stayed firmly in the game and ultimately won, off of this guy’s boot. Stay Swaggy Bass.

Despite winning the game, the Buffalo Bills have a lot of work to do on both sides of the ball. I am optimistic though. But, to take your mind off of the monotony of the game, please rewatch a very special, very legendary halftime performance from ZZ-Bot.

Much like Marty McFly, Trish Patel (aka Tyler Bass Enthusiast) is a time traveller who stole a sports almanac so as to fool you mortals into believing that she can predict the stats of a game. If you come at her on social media, there is an excellent chance you'll get burnt. They don't call her @savage_trish for nothing.
