On the latest episode of The Rico Report, our host was joined by BF Contributor Evan Harrington. They touched on some major talking points from around the league. Is Lamar Jackson worth a big new contract? Can Brian Daboll turn Daniel Jones into the next Josh Allen? Let’s get into it.

Is Lamar Jackson Worth Top QB Money? (28:29)

Lamar Jackson’s career has been in flux as of late, but now he prepares to play on a fifth-year option as he works towards a contract extension with the Baltimore Ravens. Greg Roman’s offensive scheme is quite basic, and Lamar is asked to do a lot to run it, somewhat literally. Roman just leans on him to make magic happen, and Lamar could excel if they were to move on from their current OC. Still, with a workload like his, he deserves a big payday. Let’s look at the money other top QBs are commanding:

Josh Allen43Kirk Cousins35

The idea that Lamar Jackson isn’t worth $35M a year, when you look at comparable player value, is ludicrous. When healthy, he’s one of the most dynamic players in the NFL. The issue with his newfound inconsistency isn’t unfounded, but it’s also not uncommon. Russell Wilson has similar issues with far less reasoning behind them. Lamar’s MVP may be gathering dust, but the definitive proof of his ceiling is right there. He and his mother represent his camp, and without a legal contract professional in his corner, can he expect to get the best value? Possibly not, and it only makes the situation more unstable. Lamar Jackson should be asking for a top deal, and he may well still get it.

Can Brian Daboll Make Daniel Jones Into The Next Josh Allen? (44:39)

This is going to be a fun storyline to watch in 2022. Did Josh Allen make Brian Daboll? How much did Daboll actually do for Allen, and vice versa? As the HC for the New York Giants, the former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator has his work cut out for him. His QB, Daniel Jones, has a lot of positives to his game, though he’s not that athletic freak we’ve come to know and love. How does Brian Daboll adjust his game to suit Jones? Is he just a bridge to their own QB of the future? For a complete discussion on the topic, click here.

Rico and Evan also discussed the Buffalo Bills’ new analytics department and it’s role in keeping this team healthy (19:59), as well as the latest Deshaun Watson news (1:18:13), and the biggest threat to us in the AFC East (1:27:57).
