Bills Get Out-Coached, End Another Season with Loss to Chiefs

Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, Game Recap

Orchard Park, N.Y. – Well, the Buffalo Bills got out-coached by Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs… again. And, once again, we start the off-season before the Championship game begins. Four out of the last five years, Buffalo goes home by the Divisional Round and, once again, the fans and media are left figuring out what went wrong. Let’s try and dig into it.

WRs were non-existent

When Josh Allen needed them most, Trent Sherfield and Stefon Diggs weren’t there. Allen threw three beautiful deep passes… all three of them were dropped. Surprising coming from one of the best receivers in the league, and Josh’s best friend since coming to Buffalo. Maybe the Stefon Diggs we’ve come to once know and love is just gone. That’s alright, but we can’t get out of his contract yet, either.

Pass Rush, once again, was a non-factor

Over the years, the Buffalo Bills have spent countless capital (draft picks and cap space) trying to perfect the DL. And, despite their best efforts, they failed. They once double dipped on pass rushers in the draft to stop this very same Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs team. That didn’t work. SO they went out and got Von Miller. That also hasn’t worked out. Now, they’re stuck with Von Miller for the foreseeable future.

Linebacker injuries prove costly

Well, Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane had a week to find a LB to help them. They did nothing. Instead, Tyrel Dodson and AJ Klein get hurt in this game and we were left playing Tyler Matakevich on defense. Buffalo was forced to roll out Klein and Siran Neal to cover Travis Kelce most of the game. Meanwhile, Isiah Pacheco ran all over the Bills, to the tune of 97 yards and one TD.

A fake punt with Damar Hamlin…

That may be the dumbest decision ST Coordinator Matthew Smiley has ever made. You’re asking Damar Hamlin, a safety, to pick up five yards on a fake punt in the most important game of the year, and expect him to succeed? That’s completely unacceptable from the coaching staff. If you’re going to be aggressive there, keep the offense on the field and put the ball in Allen’s hands.
