AFC East Week 9 Roundup

Published

on

After an eventful trade deadline for the AFC East, let’s take a look at some news and notes around the division. The Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills were busy making trades. The other half of the division (New York Jets and New England Patriots) were more involved with rumors than anything. The Bills will look to start this new month off on a hot streak, as their next two games feature the Jets and Minnesota Vikings. Meanwhile, the Dolphins look to catch up to the Bills after acquiring Bradley Chubb and Jeff Wilson.

AFC East Standings

Buffalo Bills

  • To start the day, the Buffalo Bills signed WR Isaiah Coulter to the practice squad and released S Jared Mayden.
  • Buffalo has not yet ruled out CB Tre White for their divisional matchup against the New York Jets. White practiced fully yesterday after being activated off the PUP list.
  • The Bills seem to be getting healthier as Xavier Rhodes returned to the practice squad and Spencer Brown returned to practice.
  • Jordan Poyer is currently listed as week-to-week with his elbow injury. Meaning he will likely miss this week’s game.
  • The Bills are one of four teams that have touched base with FA WR Odell Beckham Jr. However, the health of his knee is still a question among interested teams.

New York Jets

  • DT Quinnen Williams was named AFC Defensive Player of the Month.
  • On Tuesday, the Jets traded DE Jacob Martin to the Denver Broncos for a fourth round pick.
  • The team also received multiple calls about WR Elijah Moore before the deadline, but nothing materialized.

Miami Dolphins

  • After acquiring pass rusher Bradley Chubb on Tuesday, the team signed him to a new five year/$119M extension that includes $63M guaranteed.
  • The Dolphins worked out six players yesterday: DBs Nate Meadors, J.R. Reed, and James Wiggins, G Jordan Meredith, DT David Moore, and OL Lamont Gaillard (signed to practice squad).
  • The Dolphins didn’t field calls on TE Mike Gesicki, despite months of speculation.

New England Patriots

  • Rookie CB Jack Jones hasn’t allowed a TD in 169 coverage snaps this year.
  • Despite having a handful of teams call about WR Kendrick Bourne, the Patriots wound up keeping him past the deadline.
  • Yesterday, the Patriots signed OL Hayden Howerton and veteran P Michael Palardy to the practice squad & released DL Ron’Dell Carter and K Tristan Vizcaino.
