Why the “McDermott Way” works for the Buffalo Bills

You may know it as “The Process” but soon it may go by a new moniker, “The McDermott Way”. Since being hired by Terry and Kim Pegula Sean McDermott has bought a sense of culture and steadfast leadership the Buffalo Bills have been missing since the retirement on Marv Levy in the mid-1990s.

Sitting down with The Hoof Podcast WGR550 morning show host Jeremy White explains why he is optimistic about the future of the Bills under McDermott. While he believes McDermott’s philosophy falls on the conservative side he states “the funny thing about the NFL is even if you are conservative there are plenty of guys who will out-conservative you and allow you to still win games.” He further goes on to state he sees McDermott’s squads as well prepared week in and week out, and the respect the players have for him.

He drew a stark contrast between McDermott and his predecessors Rex Ryan and Doug Marrone. Hughes was a “lightning rod” according to White under previous coaches to the point that Doug Marrone almost cut him. McDermott knows how to toe the line with personalities like Hughes to the point where they become “just another good football player on your roster” and you forget about their past.
