Thursday Thought: Squish the Fish

If the Bills want to prove to everyone that they are for real, they must win the games they’re supposed to win, and that starts this week against Miami.

For the 4-1 Buffalo Bills, it’s important that they stay focused and do not look ahead. The Bills are now swimming in unfamiliar territory, as not only do they have a strong record but are now huge favorites for some of their games. This weekend against the Miami Dolphins, who come into the game at 0-6, Buffalo finds themselves as 16.5-point favorites, the largest point spread the Bills have had since 1992. With expectations high, the Bills must stay focused and take care of business this weekend. This week’s Thursday Thought: Squish the Fish.

The reason why this game is important is simple. Miami is not a very good football team and one that the Bills can’t afford to lose to. It’s a home game, coming off the bye week, against a team that hasn’t won a game this season. The Bills need to win this weekend.

It’s well documented that the Bills Schedule gets significantly harder in the second half of the season that includes road trips to Baltimore, Cleveland, and New England. If the Bills want a chance at the playoffs, they’ll need to stack up wins earlier in the season. So far, they’ve taken care of their business and are off to a very good start.

However, the Dolphins are the worst team in the league and the Bills cannot afford a loss to them this week. The Bills next game is against the Eagles. Although Philadelphia has a ton of injuries, they are still an incredibly talented and well-coached football team. Bottom line, you don’t get to play a team like Miami every week. On top of it all, this could be a huge confidence builder for the Bills before they face some tougher competition.

If the Bills play their game, there is no question they walk off New Era Field with a win. They are a far superior team than the Dolphins. However, the Dolphins have professionals on their team too, and if the Bills play down to the level of their competition, it could prove to be to their detriment. Don’t sleep on this game, this is the NFL and on any given Sunday anything can happen. (Think Bucs at LA Rams or Indy at the Chiefs)

As I wrote in last week’s Thursday Thought, these are not the same old Bills, and this week could even further prove that point. The Bills are good. The Dolphins are not. The Bills are better. The Bills need to squish the fish this weekend.
