On the latest Smoke Break, Z-Bot was joined by The Rev to discuss some developments from around the NFL, but primarily to talk about the now-bonafide celebrity status of Josh Allen. The quarterback for the Buffalo Bills has transcended sports, and it’s the first time since O.J. Simpson that it actually means something. Let’s get into it.
Josh Allen’s Ascension (29:30)
Josh Allen is officially a major celebrity; it has become a fact this offseason. From ‘The Match’ to his TV ads, he’s everywhere, and he’s representing Buffalo extremely well. His influence on this team, both on and off the field, cannot be overstated.
From the Buffalo Bills’ 15 1pm Sunday games in Allen’s rookie season to our current league-darling status: Josh puts us on the map. At the conclusion of that historic 2021/22 postseason run, his game has elevated him to (arguably) the best quarterback in the NFL. Now that we’re leading favorites for the Super Bowl in 2023, it stands to reason that Allen is getting the credit he deserves.
What comes next? He’s already been chased by paparazzi at the Miami Grand Prix, played in a nationally televised golf tournament, and seems to be appearing everywhere this offseason. But, above all else, he’s appearing at OTAs. Despite his massive status and fat contract, he attended all but one day of the team’s voluntary activities. That lone exception was for that charity golf tournament. A team player and new cultural icon, Josh Allen represents us very well.
They also discussed Sean McDermott’s culture shift (1:08:55), Ryan Fitzpatrick’s retirement (1:27:00), and the latest Deshaun Watson developments (1:43:55). For all that and more, check out the latest Smoke Break on the Buffalo Fanatics YouTube Channel.
