Rookie Comparison: Josh Allen vs Carson Wentz

Josh Allen is now the unquestioned starting quarterback of the Buffalo Bills entering his second season after an up and down rookie campaign. Most of the national media wrote off Allen as inaccurate and has been nothing but a bust at throwing the ball, while very little about his sheer athleticism.

While yes, Josh Allen didn’t have the same completion percentage as Carson Wentz, other key stats are equal or better. Let’s do a dive into comparing these two small school quarterbacks as rookies.

While these aren’t the end all be all statistics saying Josh Allen is better than Carson Wentz; however he should be given more credit then he got after the 2018 season.

If Josh Allen has a similar ascension between years one and two, as Carson Wentz, his numbers could be through the roof. More so with his additions of Duke Williams, Tyler Croft, Cole Beasley, and John Brown as they now have reliable pass catchers at seemingly every level of passing for Allen in 2019.

Also they dramatically improved the Bills offensive line that was beleaguered in 2018, causing Allen to run for his life more than he should as a rookie. With a better offensive line, Bills Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll can scheme more detailed passes and designed runs that will create more opportunities. If the Bills’ offense takes off in 2019, it will create far less pressure for the highly touted defense that will return ten starters.

All and all, it will be interesting to see how much Josh Allen progresses in 2019 with somethings the Buffalo Bills have direly needed consistent coaching schemes and a possible franchise quarterback.
