Real or Rumor: DeAndre Hopkins to Buffalo?
This past NFL season sparked many trade rumors. From Odell Beckham Jr. potentially wanting to come to Buffalo to Stefon Diggs supposedly wanting to go to the Cowboys, we’ll really never know what’s coming next. What we do know, however, is that former Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins is wanted in Buffalo.
While talk of a Hopkins trade had been circulating for awhile, the 30-year-old was granted permission to seek a trade with other teams on March 27th. On a few different occasions, Buffalo Bills LB Von Miller mentioned wanting the WR on the team as well.
“I would love to see DeAndre Hopkins be here, and I would love to have his skillset on our offense… With Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs, Dawson Knox and Gabe Davis, how could we lose with those guys?”

What Can Hopkins Bring to the Buffalo Bills?
Insuppressible talent. That’s exactly what DeAndre Hopkins can bring. With the addition of Hopkins to the offense, the Bills would continue their dream of a Super Bowl win. The Hopkins-Diggs duo would quickly become the best receiver duo in the entire NFL. We also can’t forget the rest of the talent on the Bills offense with RBs Damien Harris, James Cook, and Nyheim Hines. An offense of this caliber under star QB Josh Allen is sure to make other teams fearful of Buffalo once again.
What About the Salary Cap?
Currently under contract for two more seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Hopkins has a $30.7 million cap charge. With about $6.5 million in available cap space, the Bills would have to do even more maneuvering in order to make this happen. This could come in the form of moving money to bonuses or working out an extension that would decrease Hopkins’ cap hit for the next two years. Additionally, it may seem unlikely for the Bills to trade a first-rounder for Hopkins in the NFL Draft next week, this may not be completely out of the question for Day 2 either.
Does Hopkins Really Want to Come to Buffalo?
Word on the street is, he does. In his appearance on CBS Sports’ “All Things Covered” Podcast with Bryant McFadden, Hopkins smirked at the idea of joining the Bills, but looked away when asked about interest in the New England Patriots or New York Jets.
With hours of training together, Von Miller said Hopkins actually admitted to him that we wants to play for the Bills too. “You just never know until you know,” Miller said. “Hop said he wanted to be a Buffalo Bill… You just never know until you get that DeAndre Hopkins signature on the contract”.
No matter what the Buffalo Bills have to do to make this trade happen, it would surely be worth it. Hopkins joining forces with Diggs, Miller, Allen, and the rest of the team’s offense would make the Bills an even more dangerous team and serious Super Bowl contender.
