Buffalo Bills
Nothing is Locked Up at CB2 Yet
Day 3 of Buffalo Bills training camp has wrapped up at St. John Fisher University. There are position battles taking place on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. One battle that is very intriguing to Bills Mafia is the battle for CB2.
Coming into camp, one of the questions many fans were asking was who would be the number two corner opposite of Tre’Davious White. Even a few days in, the Bills haven’t truly made their intentions known for the CB2 spot.
The Bills have deployed a few corners with the starting unit. Day 1, we saw veteran cornerback Dane Jackson take the first-team reps. Day 2 saw both Dane and second-year corner Christian Benford with the starting unit. The looming question in every Bills fan’s mind through the first two days was “where is last year’s first-round pick, Kaiir Elam?” Worry no more, as Elam got time with the starters during Day 3 of camp.
Who will be CB2?
The Buffalo Bills have made it clear that they like their cornerback depth on the roster. However, they have yet to name a CB2.
This is Kaiir Elam’s battle to lose, in my opinion. Elam was drafted in the first round in last year’s draft and the Bills obviously have big plans for him, considering they invested high draft capital in the corner. Kaiir Elam has to make the most of his opportunities during camp and preseason because it’s not going to be easy competing against Jackson and Benford, both of whom have had a very solid start to their camps.
As camp continues, it seems that Head Coach Sean McDermott and the rest of the coaching staff will want to see as many reps from Jackson, Elam, and Benford as possible before making that commitment for the opening week of the NFL season.
