- Round One: Teven Jenkins, OT – Oklahoma State
- Round Two: Hamsah Nasirildeen, S/LB – Florida State
- Round Three: Kenny Gainwell, RB/WR – Memphis
Round Five (Pick 162): Tedarrell Slaton, DT – Florida
The Bills struggled mightily on the defensive front seven without Star Lotulelei in 2020. As Buffalo’s one-tech (nose tackle/big boi) on the line, Star routinely took on double-teams to open up gaps for the edge rushers and linebackers to defend the run and rush the passer. While they will (hopefully) get him back for 2021, the Bills should consider finding another big boi to develop, and eventually replace him, in the rotation. Enter Tedarrell Slaton, the 6’5”, 358 lb. behemoth from the University of Florida. He does everything you could ask of a big boi; he takes on double-teams and can wreak havoc on the interior offensive line.
Round Five (Pick 175): Jaelon Darden, WR – North Texas
I did take Kenny Gainwell in the third round to be Buffalo’s speed back/receiver hybrid, but they will need to find a true receiver to potentially replace John Brown, Isaiah McKenzie, and/or Andre Roberts. I really like two receivers to fill this role: Dazz Newsome (UNC) and Jaelon Darden (North Texas). However, since Newsome will likely go in the late fourth or early fifth round, I will take Darden. The Mean Green receiver set all-time school records with 230 receptions, 2,782 receiving yards, and 38 receiving touchdowns. (He was a semifinalist for the 2020 Biletnikoff Award.) Like Newsome, Darden has the speed and elusiveness to be a play-making slot receiver as well as extensive experience as a return man.
