Mitch Morse will be staying in Buffalo. The 29-year-old center has reworked his deal, freeing up nearly $2 million for the Bills in 2021, per Ian Rapoport (NFL Network).
According to Spotrac, Morse would have made $7.025 million in base salary this season, with a cap hit just north of $10.34 million. The Bills now have roughly $7 million in cap space.
Sal Capaccio (WGR 550) reported that the Bills did not force Morse to take the pay cut. However, if he was released, the team would have saved just over $4.84 million, but with a $5.5 million dead cap.
Despite a long injury history, including five documented concussions, Morse has been effective and durable for the Bills. He has only missed two games in his two seasons with the team (both in 2020).
Furthermore, losing Morse would have created another hole on the interior offensive line. Currently, three of Buffalo’s four guards are free agents.
