Looking at the Buffalo Bills RB Room After the Damien Harris Signing

Buffalo Bills, Damien Harris

The Buffalo Bills made an upgrade at RB (depending on who you ask), signing Damien Harris to a one year/$1.7M deal, and letting Devin Singletary go to the Houston Texans. Harris is the big bruiser that Brandon Beane said they were looking for last week and he’s probably cheaper than the other free agents available. Let’s take a look at what Harris brings to the RB room.

Knowing The Enemy

Buffalo already had two pass catching backs, so getting a bruiser was their priority. Harris had some of his best games against the Bills in recent years. He racked up 102 rushing yards and one TD in 2020, 111 rush yards and one TD in December 2021, and 103 rush yards and three TDs later in December of 2021. Harris said playing against the Bills made him a better competitor, and the stats back him up. He has been a Bill killer every time he faces the team.

Injury History

Harris has missed 14 games in the past three seasons due to injury. Those injuries include hamstring strains, a high ankle injury, a concussion, thigh bruise, pinky fracture, and an illness, via BF’s own Thigh Doctor. Harris isn’t the healthiest back. However, when he’s on the field, he’ll give you the best of himself.

The Bills could still look to add at RB, but it won’t be anybody flashy. With Harris and Cook the projected one-two punch and Nyheim Hines as the third back, the Bills will likely just find somebody in the later rounds/UDFA to take the RB4 position. If Buffalo were to add via free agency again, it would be somebody cheaper than Harris. Somebody like Jaret Patterson, Benny Snell Jr, or even bring back Taiwan Jones to handle special teams duties.

Bills RB Room Review

The Buffalo Bills upgraded at RB. They went from Devin Singletary, who didn’t really produce too much in the offense, to Damien Harris, who we could see really take it to the next level, and didn’t break the bank to bring him in either. Now, the Bills could look to grab somebody to take over RB4, but it wouldn’t likely be any time soon as they have more pressing needs to address.
