Strengths: – Jake Bailey has a strong explosive leg who can kick 60 yards downfield without much strain – For all of his senior year, he didn’t allow a long return on one of his punts – Can also perform kickoffs, and had an 82 percent touchback percentage – Is exceptionally skilled at directional punts, often where he aims, the ball follows and also has sure hands; and will not have issues with the snap |
Weaknesses: – Jake Bailey had a net punting average of 39.9 yards per punt in 2018 – Kicks several touchbacks throughout the season as a punter – He might have effortless power; however he will have to work on his touch at the next level |
Overall: Jake Bailey was a top ten recruit nationally as a kicker/punter, but stayed local to Northern California, eventually started for the Stanford Cardinal as the kickoff specialist, and would become the team’s punter as well. Was either first team or second team all pac-12 for all three years he started in Palo Alto. His 2017 year was his most successful as he finished seventh in the nation with a 45.4 yards per punt with 24 punts inside the twenty yard line with three touchbacks. All and all, will Jake Bailey be the next Ray Guy or Morten Anderson? Unlikely; however the future has yet to be written for anyone. He should take over for a team that has struggled with their special teams in 2018. |
