Tyrell Williams

The Buffalo Bills need wide receiver help. Here we will take a look at a potential weapon for Josh Allen. Free agent wide receiver Tyrell Williams, formerly of the Los Angeles Chargers, could be a great signing for the Bills this off-season with the NFL Free Agency period coming up soon.

Williams has been stuck behind Keenan Allen and Melvin Gordon for touches in his three full seasons in the NFL. The Chargers constantly funnel the ball to these two players leaving little opportunity for others. Then, they drafted Mike Williams with a top 10 pick in 2017 making opportunities even more scarce for Tyrell Williams.

However, at 6’3″ 205 lbs and a 4.48 40-yard dash, Williams possesses amazing athleticism to go with exceptional size. He is only 27 years old and has played sixteen games in three out of four NFL seasons. He is durable, has great size and athleticism and is looking for an opportunity. Williams needs to be given the chance to come out from behind the spotlight of Keenan Allen.

When Keenan Allen missed the 2016 season, Williams stepped in as the number one receiver. He had 1,059 yards and seven touchdowns on 119 targets. His 65 targets this season were almost 40 less than Zay Jones and Tyrell Williams still had more receiving yards and only two less touchdowns. In his three full seasons he has averaged 16 yards per reception proving he has true field-stretching ability (https://www.pro-football reference.com/players/W/WillTy00.htm). In that 2016 season he was 11th in the NFL in separation yards created. On game film he has shown he can use his size to high point balls as well. His 6’3″ stature would allow for red zone opportunities too without the presence of any other big receiver or elite tight end on the Bills roster.

Tyrell Williams has proven when given the targets he can seriously produce. A veteran receiver who wants to prove himself, has exceptional size adjusted speed, can burn defenders, has a large catch radius, and who can create separation is the perfect fit for Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. All Tyrell Williams needs is the chance to prove he can be the number one receiver.
