The Buffalo Bills are making some big moves. There is a lot of fun to be had, but also confusion. Let us help you by making this all easier, latest news is at the top.
I will update this as Big Baller Beane continues working his magic. So stay tuned!!
Signed – Bobby Hart
Extended – Stefon Diggs
Josh Allen’s best friend is here to stay! And we could not be happier about it. Diggs has already become a Buffalo legend and being able to keep him for years to come is just *chef’s kiss*.
A four-year $104M blockbuster deal, putting him right up there with top paid wideouts. As he deserved. We love Diggs ❤
Signed – Ryan “Rick, I’m a Chicken Wing” Bates
He’s back! Rick shocked the Bills when he asked for a break to explore his options, and Buffalo spent this time stewing in the mistakes they made. Thankfully, they were able to win him back.
Bates hasn’t exactly been a consistent member of this team, and the four year deal may have repercussions. But it’s cheap, and the few appearances he made, he made them count. He was great, and I can’t wait to see what else he can do.
Signed – Ike Boettger, OL
The offensive line is in desperate need of reinforcement so it makes sense to bring back someone who’s familiar with it. I really do love this signing.
Signed – Duke Johnson, RB
The Bills ground game is concerning, despite Singletary making a splash in the final few weeks of the season. So, this signing is not surprising nor unwelcomed.
Johnson provides the veteran that the Bills need in the backfield. He’s an explosive rushing and decent receiver, I like what his dynamic can bring to the team. Yet another good signing by BBB.
Signed – Jamison Crowder, WR
We were all under the impression that Big Baller Beane was done for now. And yet he continues to prove us wrong. This WR is stellar, especially considering he costs just $4M. That’s some wizardry.
The only issue with Crowder’s performance is that he was with the Jets and had a carousel of QBs. Finishing last season with 51 receptions for 447 yards and two TDs in 12 games.
He will comfortably fill the gap that Beasley vacated, and I can’t wait to see the progression he’ll make with a competent QB.
This Bills WR room is starting to get exciting.
Signed – Duke Johnson, RB
McKissic left a bitter taste in Buffalo’s mouth. But never fear, Duke Johnson is here.
This 28-year-old receiving back is almost exclusively used in specific plays. Screens anyone? He’s not the explosive RB we wanted to work in tandem with Singletary, but he’s good enough. If the Bills can use him in a few trick plays, then he’ll have served his purpose.
Signed – Greg Mancz, OL
The Bills add some much needed depth to the offensive line with this former Dolphin. Picked up by the Texans in 2015 as an undrafted free agent and spent most of his career there, until last season where the Ravens picked him up on waivers and subsequently traded him to the Fins.
Mancz has appeared in just 63 games in his career and started 32. But, what is great about this signing, is that Mancz has experience playing all positions of the OL. He started an entire season at centre with the 2016 Texans, taking 100% of the snaps. The following year he moved to RT and took 83% of snaps in the 10 games he appeared in. And finally, 58% of snaps at guard in his five games with Miami.
The Bills faced a lot of issues with OL health last season, and Mancz provides good insurance should Buffalo encounter similar problems.
Signed – Matt Barkley, QB
It’s a sad time for those on the, “McDermott has created such a bad environment in Buffalo” train. Barkley is one of many to come back to the Bills, and I absolutely love this move. With Keenum also being brought in, the Bills QB room is stellar.
It’s only a one year contract, but it’s more than enough for this guy, who has been reliable any time he’s been called upon. It’s nice to see him back where he belongs. We’ve missed Bitcoin Barkley.
Signed – Case Keenum, QB
As far as backup QBs go, Keenum is one of the best. If you need a reminder, I’ll redirect you to the Minneapolis Miracle. With this signing, Beane has ensured that the Bills have got themselves as good as a backup as Trubisky provided last season. I love this move.
Signed – Marquel Lee, LB
There’s a depth issue with LB and with his acquisition, Beane got some good compensation.
He might not be the biggest impact player, but he’s young, big and reliable when needed. There’s also the added benefit of him being on the team last off-season. Another good move by the front office.
Signed – Shaq Lawson, DE (He’s also back)
Another man who needs no introduction. It seems McDermott and Beane wanted to continue on this reunion train and bring back the other member of this duo.
A 2019 Bills defence with the addition of Von Miller? I can’t wait. And neither can these guys. Phillips finished his news conference off with urging Lawson to sign his contract, our boys are back for one year.
Signed – Jordan Phillips, DT (He’s back baby)
A man who needs no introduction at all. Phillips is back and good lord is that fun. He successfully drove his own campaign, from getting released from the Cardinals, to bullying the Bills into taking him back literally the next day. Gotta love the enthusiasm.
Cut – Cole Beasley, WR
This is sad. It was inevitable, the cap hit, his productivity and then him looking for a trade. We all knew that Beasley more than likely wouldn’t be playing for the Bills again. But to see him get cut is sad nonetheless.
He’s been a integral part of this team for some time, being one of the best slot receivers in the game. But, like some of the FA’s the Bills have signed, Beasley just needs a fresh start. I do know whoever picks him up have got themselves a star WR.
Signed – O.J. Howard, TE
Apparently, Beane wanted all the attention to himself because not even a few minutes after the Miller news broke, we also found out O.J. Howard was signed.
Beautiful work. A solid TE to work alongside Knox AND he’s been given a one year contract, so we can still draft Jelani Woods. No need to panic everyone.
Signed – Von Freaking Miller, OLB (HOW?!?)
I’m still processing this, but apparently the Buffalo Bills landed a big name free agent. The same Bills who no one ever wanted to go to. Insanity.
But it’s true Bills Mafia. Von Miller is coming to Western New York. He’s a guy who needs no introduction. Giving the Bills some much needed help on defence. No way anyone can stop this team now.
As of now, it seems that Miller’s been signed to a six-year, $120M contract. I’m sure we’ll get a breakdown soon.
(Not) Signed – J.D. McKissic, RB
We wanted the Buffalo Bills to get a RB. McCaffrey and Barkley were just a couple of the names thrown around. Instead, we get a discount Cordarrelle Patterson, and I am all here for it. McKissic is a star receiving back and fantastic in those third down situations. I’m sure we’ll see him take some of that pressure off of Allen and lend a hand to Motor.
UPDATE: Yeah, um about McKissic… Apparently he decided to go back to Washington. (Rude.) At least he had more rushing yards here than Reggie Bush.
Signed – DaQuan Jones, DT
And Brandon Beane struck again with another big boi, this time a former Panther. DaQuan Jones tallied 38 tackles, 6 QB hits, 1 TFL, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble last year as Carolina’s 1T. He not only has plenty of starting experience – having played at least 50% of defensive snaps every year since 2015 – but is capable of shedding blocks (unlike Vernon Butler or Star Lotulelei).
Signed – Tim “The Penguin” Settle, DT. Two-year, $9M deal
When it came to signing a defensive free agent, I’m sure we were all hoping for a bigger name. But I think Bills Mafia will be pleasantly surprised by this guy. Washington’s defensive line is stacked, so Settle spent much of his time there in the background. However, the few appearances he made were worthwhile. Of the 63 games he appeared in, he accumulated seven sacks, 54 tackles, and 12 QB hits.
With the way the Bills constantly rotate the defensive line, I say he has a good chance to make a big impact. At only 24 years old he is still young enough to develop, despite having four years of experience. I like this signing, he came at a reasonable price too.
Signed – Rodger Saffold, OL. One-year deal
Saffold is a monster LG, standing at 6’5″ and weighing in at 325lbs. He was unfortunately a casualty of cap with the Titans, otherwise they wouldn’t have wanted to get rid of this 2021 Pro Bowler. Cutting Williams is making more and more sense.
Signing him for one year makes even more sense, going into his 13th year and pushing 34 years old, he’s here to get the Bills to the Super Bowl, and not any further. Excellent signing, stay tuned for money talks.
Tendered – Ryan “Rick” Bates (Right of first refusal)
The Buffalo Bills gave Ryan Bates (aka “Rick The Chicken Wing”) the low restricted free agent tender. While this allows the Bills to match any offer, they will get nothing if he leaves because he was an undrafted free agent.
Extended – Mitch Morse
A vital part of this offensive line, Morse – like Williams – was expected to be cap casualty. Thankfully, Beane was able to avoid this and instead extended Morse with a two-year, $19.5M deal. The new contract means that Morse’s cap hit for this season has been reduced by $2.25M.
Cut – Daryl Williams
An unfortunate loss for the Bills. But a guard being paid the amount he was, it was predicted he would be cap casualty. The move saved the Buffalo Bills $6.3M in cap space, a much need cash injection.
Extended – Isaiah McKenzie
Lil Dirty inked a two-year, $4.4M extension. Of that, $1.25M is guaranteed. According to Spotrac, the deal puts McKenzie’s cap hits at $1.87M and $2.52M respectively. An absolute steal for a gadget players, who proved to be very useful. Plus, he’s a fun character to have around, so it’s a win-win.
