Fantasy Football Insights (2021): Week 5

Week 5 is upon us, and just about a quarter of the season is over. By now, you can see the trends starting to form across the landscape of the NFL. Like which teams are good against the pass and which teams are awful at stopping the run. I am going to focus on some fantasy football trends and matchups to exploit this week.

Rams Pass Offense vs. Seahawks

NFL Sunday: Matthew Stafford, Rams face pressure vs. Tom Brady, Bucs

First game up just happens to be the Thursday night matchup. Let’s be blunt, the Seahawks defense is not at all what it use to be. They are in the top-five for most passing yards against. That leads us to their opponent: the Rams, who have one of the best passing offenses in the league. Start your Rams this week fantasy folks. So far this season, Matt Stafford is top-two in yards and touchdowns. Cooper Kupp is second in receptions, third in yards and leads the league in touchdowns caught. Do not forget about Bobby Trees (aka Robert Woods) too. Sean McVay came out and said he wants to get Woods more involved.

Jameis Winston vs. Washington

The next matchup to exploit is a tricky one. On paper, the WFT has a really good defense, but they have underperformed to start the season. They have given up the fourth-most passing yards to opponents and have been scored on a ton (30.5 ppg). Jameis Winston and the Saints have been all over the board with offensive consistency, but this may be a “get right” game for them. I feel confident in starting Jameis in two-QB fantasy leagues, as well as starting Alvin Kamara in every format. If you are desperate, you could start Juwan Johnson or Marquez Callaway in a pinch. This should be a high scoring affair.

Browns RBs vs. Chargers

Why isn't Nick Chubb getting more love? - Dawgs By Nature

Chargers-Browns is an intriguing AFC contest on many levels. In real life, both teams seem to be legit contenders, so this game could go a long way in playoff seeding. From the fantasy side of things, I love the Browns rushing attack in this game. The Chargers run defense is soft, having let up 139.5 yards a game, and Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb should feast. I can see at least one of them going over 100 and both scoring a touchdown.

Vikings Offense vs. Lions

Vikings Will Not Trade WR Adam Thielen

The last game I want to bring up is the Lions vs. Vikings. The Lions are in the bottom of the NFL in points allowed and, when clicking, the Vikings can put up points. After a low-scoring effort against the Browns, this is the perfect matchup for the Vikings offense to get back on track. Kirk Cousins, Dalvin Cook, Justin Jefferson, and Adam Thielen will all be fantasy relevant this week in big ways.

Check back next week for more fantasy football matchups to exploit. Do not forget there is a game this week in London at 9:30 AM EST, so get your lineups in and GO BILLS!
