Commissioner’s Corner: Must-Have Fantasy Players on Your Week 2 Roster
Welcome back, commissioners, to another week of fantasy football. The beginning of the season is always tough, so let’s make sure your team is set up for success this week. Without further ado, let’s dive back into it:
The QB Crisis
My fantasy football pick for this week may not be the most popular after his four-turnover game on Monday night, but I’m trying to be optimistic here. Josh Allen needs a redemption game, and his Week 2 matchup provides the perfect opportunity. On Sunday in Orchard Park, the Bills will face the Raiders. Vegas allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing QBs last season. If Josh Allen is on your roster, this is definitely the week to start him.
Who Has Your Back? Running Backs
Tony Pollard of the Dallas Cowboys displayed remarkable resilience last week. He showed no signs of lingering issues from the leg injury that prematurely concluded his 2022 season. In an impressive return, he crossed the goal line twice while accumulating a total of 82 yards against the Giants. Given the formidable pass defense of the Jets, the Cowboys are expected to heavily emphasize their ground game in Week 2. This makes Tony Pollard a prominent candidate near the summit of the Week 2 Fantasy football running back rankings.
Receive Some Points from Your Wide Receivers
The PPR machine himself, Amon-Ra St. Brown, is another to include in your Week 2 lineup. The Detroit Lions WR successfully reached the endzone in Week 1, and should have a favorable matchup in Week 2 against Seattle. The Seahawks allowed multiple wideouts to exceed over 100 receiving yards in Week 1, and neither of them are as big a focal point in their respective offense as St. Brown is for Detroit.
Tighten Up Your Team’s Loose Ends with a Tight End
Although Pat Freiermuth’s lone reception in Week 1 was a three-yard touchdown grab, it was still a notable achievement, given it was against the league’s top defense, the 49ers. With receiver Diontae Johnson sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Freiermuth is poised to play a much more active role in the passing game against Cleveland this weekend.
Defend Your Turf
In Week 1, the top-scoring fantasy contributor wasn’t Trevor Lawrence, Patrick Mahomes, or any other player; it was the Dallas Cowboys’ D/ST. They posted an impressive performance, blanking the Giant and registering defensive and special teams touchdowns, securing three takeaways, and sacking Daniel Jones seven times. The Cowboys D/ST has certainly earned its place in your fantasy lineups. It’s advisable to keep them there until they demonstrate otherwise.
Conclusion (or another clever pun)
Remember to always trust your instincts, rely on data-driven insights, and above all, enjoy the excitement of another week of fantasy football action. Best of luck to you all.
