Commissioner’s Corner: Making Mid-Season Fantasy Adjustments

Feel like your fantasy football team isn’t doing too hot so far? Don’t quit just yet. Depending on your league’s playoff structure, there are still several substantial weeks remaining in the fantasy football season.

Looking for tips to juice up your roster? Don’t worry — we have you covered. Keep reading for our mid-season tips for commissioners and team managers alike:

1) Don’t Let Your Team WAIVER

The waiver wire serves a crucial role in substituting players from your roster. Should one of your essential team members suffer an injury, or is on an untimely bye week, your initial focus should be locating their replacement on the waiver wire. However, the utility of the waiver wire extends beyond reacting to your own team’s injuries. When adversity befalls an opponent’s roster, seizing the opportunity to secure one of their insurance options becomes a strategic move. This may result in acquiring a player suitable for immediate use or providing leverage in potential trade negotiations with your fellow league members.

Taking a glance at the schedule is also a wise move when deciding to add a player from the waiver wire. If upcoming matchups are unfavorable, or if one of your rostered players has an upcoming bye, it’s important to reconsider using your waiver priority, especially if you already have reservations.

2) Be a Jack of All TRADES

The critical piece of advice to remember when proposing trades in your fantasy football league is don’t worry about who “won” the trade. The entire idea behind trading players is to make your team better somehow. If a trade looks potentially beneficial and could help strengthen your current roster, then maybe it is a good idea. If a trade doesn’t look enticing, then consider proposing different trade terms or maybe not trading those players. It may sound simple — but in fantasy football, we know it’s never really that easy.

When crafting a credible trade offer, a key strategy is to identify a trading partner with strengths where you are weak and vice versa. For instance, if you lack wide receivers but have surplus running backs, seek a team strong in receivers but in need of running back support.

The approach to trading involves various possibilities. You might opt for one-for-one player trades or consider exchanging multiple players. This decision depends on your preferences and the other party’s inclinations. Aim high in your initial offer, targeting the players you most desire, and negotiate from there. Ideally, a mutually beneficial deal can be reached through compromise. While this process can be challenging, it’s the path to success in a way that sets champions apart from the rest.

3) Fight to the Finish

A key aspect of competing until the end is staying informed about players who have emerged later in the season. This knowledge helps you identify sleeper picks for next season. There’s consistently a group of players who gain attention with late-season success and turn out to be highly valuable in fantasy the following year. So, pay attention! Take a few risks and make some changes. Fight to finish strong this fantasy season!
