Buffalo Bills: Things We Know This Week
“Still the team setting the pace. Still the team that you have to chase down in the East. Still a team that is a Super Bowl contender, Yes, they have to plug some holes, but the Bills’ DNA is steeped in their roster where they believe they’re winning.” – Charles Davis
The Buffalo Bills hired former Carolina Panthers interim defensive coordinator Al Holcomb several weeks back as their new “senior defensive assistant”. At that time, I was not aware of any such job opening at One-Bills-Drive.
“If you want to win, do the ordinary things better than anyone else does them day in and day out.” – Chuck Noll
The second annual sacrificial firing consisted of safeties coach Jim Salgado. The task was complete by the hiring of Joe Danna.
“Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.” – Vince Lombardi
Fast Forward to February 28, 2023. The Buffalo Bills announce that Leslie Frazier is taking a year off from coaching. Imagine that. This announcement came on Twitter when both coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane were in Indianapolis for the NFL Combine.
“If Sean decided to take over the play-calling, I’ve seen him do it for a long time. He had great success and went against some great quarterbacks and offensive gurus. If he feels that route is best for us, I’m going to support that and have full faith he would do a great job.” –Brandon Beane
“Leadership is a matter of having people look at you and gain confidence… If you’re in control, they’re in control.” – Tom Landry
Things we know about the Buffalo Bills this week
Brandon Beane continues to work the “ART OF THE ONE-YEAR DEAL”. In doing so, the Bills have retained the services of guard Ike Boettger for a sixth season.
Contract restructures, trades and releases will be a major focus of the Bills front office as they are currently well over the salary cap.
