Buffalo Bills: Things We Know This Week

“Stay focused. Your start does not determine how you’re going to finish.” – Herm Edwards
Hearkening to sports talk radio really opened my eyes to how different people have different perspectives after watching the same exact game. I witnessed two very smart, well-coached teams play very intensely. It was a gritty battle all afternoon.
“We got a lot of heart. Lot of grit in this locker room.” – Josh Allen
A long time listener, first time caller from Cheektowaga, made it clear that great teams find ways to win.
“Leadership is a matter of having people look at you and gain confidence… If you’re in control, they’re in control.” – Tom Landry
The Buffalo Bills should be 4-0, according to several callers. All statistics would indicate the Bills walked away with a win against Miami. They did not.
“Self-praise is for losers. Be a winner. Stand for something. Always have class, and be humble.” – John Madden
There is a colossal difference between 2-2 and 3-1. The Bills’ record is impressive especially with the ridiculous amount or injuries keeping players from playing or impacting their level of play.
“Excuses are the tools of the incompetent.” – Mike Tomlin
Down 20-3 early on against the smothering Baltimore Ravens, it looked like it just was not Buffalo’s day.
“Anyone can see the adversity in a difficult situation, but it takes a stronger person to see the opportunity.” – Drew Brees
A regular caller from Lockport made the point that they executed the comeback in championship style.
“Come on, Bart. Catch the ball so we can all go out for some frosty chocolate milkshakes.” – Homer Simpson
Scoring at the end of the first half to bring the game to 20-10 was step one in the comeback.
“Adversity is an opportunity for heroism.” – Marv Levy
A passionate young lady from Hamburg made the point that the plan and clock management at the end of the game was superb. WELCOME BACK DANE JACKSON! WELCOME BACK JORDON POYER!! Two interceptions? Hello. Are you kidding me?
“Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein …” – Joe Theismann
Say what?
“The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.” – Jimmy Johnson
Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano played like all-pro linebackers. The Bills defense has been lights out minus two All-Pro superstars in Micah Hyde and Tre’Davious White.
“When you win, say nothing. When you lose, say less.” – Paul Brown
A long-time listener who had not chimed in for several years was not so optimistic.
“Ok, here’s the deal. I have a hangover. Who knows what that means?” – Dewey Finn
“Doesn’t that mean you’re drunk?” – Frankie
“No. It means I was drunk yesterday.” – Dewey Finn
It would appear that this caller enjoyed a couple too many adult beverages. Been there. Done that.
“Alcohol may be man’s worst enemy, but the bible says love your enemy.” – Frank Sinatra
I recognized that voice as “Negative Stanley” from Sloan. He believes the Buffalo Bills deserve to be 2-2. This particular caller really brushed off the incredible comeback by the Bills. He did not want to discuss how well the Bills offense started moving the football at the end of the first half and throughout the second half. He did, however, want to discuss the fact that the Bills do not have a rushing touchdown by a running back this season.
“Josh always executes when we need him most” – Mitch Morse
Stanley would not acknowledge how smart it was for Buffalo to avoid scoring and just get the first down at the very end game. The strategy to not score a touchdown with time left on the clock was impressive. Stanley cherry picks his examples to prove his point.
“Remind your critics when they say you don’t have the expertise or experience to do something that an amateur built the ark and the experts built the Titanic.” – Peyton Manning
Things we know about the Buffalo Bills this week:
Jorden Poyer’s two interceptions in the fourth quarter resulted in his first career multi-interception game and AFC Defensive Player of the Week nod. Very Nice.
Coming back to win from being down 17 points is the biggest deficit they overcame to win since 2011 when the Bills were down 21-0 against New England coming back to win.
Isaiah McKenzie is in concussion protocol.
Jamison Crowder broke his ankle and will be placed on I.R.
Tre’Davious White is now eligible to return from the Reserve/P.U.P list. “He continues to improve in his rehab, and we will get him back out there when he’s ready,” Sean McDermott stated.
Ed Oliver, Jordan Phillips, Christian Benford, Jake Kumerow, and Justin Murray are all still recovering from their respective injuries. McDermott hopes they can return sooner than later.
