Buffalo Bills: Things We Know This Week
The date was Sept. 26, 1994. The opponent was the Denver Broncos. Bill Clinton was in his first term as P.O.T.U.S. This date marks the last time the Buffalo Bills won on Monday night in Orchard Park. That is until the Tennessee Titans graced the Bills with their presence in the south towns.
“Where else would you rather be than right here, right now?” – Marv Levy
70,683 fans loudly occupied seats at Highmark Stadium, not necessarily sitting in them, as the Bills blew out last season’s number one AFC seed, The Tennessee Titans, 41-7. This comes after going into Los Angeles and rolling the Super Bowl Champs 31-10.
“I picked Buffalo to win the Super Bowl last year and am picking them to end up in the Super Bowl this year and win it.” – Colin Cowherd
You could have heard a pin drop as Dane Jackson laid on the turf for what seemed like an eternal ten minutes, surrounded by medical personnel until he was placed on a backboard and loaded into an ambulance that transported him to ECMC. Leading up to the traumatic uncertainty, Buffalo was leading 17-7 in the closing minute of the first half as Ryan Tannehill was striving to get the Titans into field goal range. He tossed a short pass to Treylon Burks, who was immediately tackled by Jackson. Tremaine Edmunds attempted a vault over Burks, instead smashing into Jackson’s helmet forcing his head and neck backward. Early reports said Jackson suffered a neck injury but had movement in all extremities.
Dan Marino? What? Tua Tagovailoa had a career day with six touchdown passes. Who? Tagovailoa aired out 469 yards connecting to Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle for two scores each. Are you kidding me?
“We’ve gone against both of them before, but now they’re on the same team. I’ve always thought they were a talented football team over the last couple of years and adding Tyreek Hill to that team, it’s a tremendous amount of playmakers on both sides of the ball and special teams. They’re very explosive on offense with Tua playing very well.” – Sean McDermott
With the lengthy list of injuries, especially on the defensive side of the football, one could choose to be pessimistic, as Miami is 2-0. Being a bit skeptical with Miami’s incredible comeback against Baltimore last week is understandable. Fear not. After two games, Buffalo’s defense has surrendered a mere 17 points. The offense has averaged 36 points per game. This Buffalo Bills team has not squeaked out two victories. They have blown out two teams who were top notch a season ago. This is Buffalo’s time. Smashing.
“Sheeesh… Bills Mafia?????” – Odell Beckham Jr.
