Buffalo Bills: Things We Know This Week
“Eighteen and life, you got it. Eighteen and life, you know. Your crime is time and it’s eighteen and life to go. Eighteen and life, you got it. Eighteen and life, you know.” – SKID ROW
“Jane” could not sing the above legendary lyrics of front man Sebastian Bach. At the time of the alleged GANG-RAPE in October, Ms. Jane Doe was a mere 17. A John Deere letter could not save Matt Araiza.
“She wrote me a john-dear letter… something about me not listening enough, I don’t know… I wasn’t really paying attention.” – Harry Dunne
Doe, who at the time, was a seventeen year old high school senior, filed a civil suit against Araiza.
“Well, she was just seventeen and you you know what I mean. And the way she looked was way beyond compare. So how could I dance with Another? (Oh). When I saw her standing there.” – The Beatles
No criminal charges have been filed against the “PUNT GOD” yet. Buffalo took Araiza in the sixth round with the 180th pick. Two punters were selected before Araiza in the draft, both in the fourth round by Baltimore and Tampa Bay. They were drafted prior to Araiza even though he clearly was the most proficient punter in the entire draft, averaging over 51 yards per punt. Two “BOOTS” over 80 yards turned plenty of heads. Not the heads of the Buccaneers and Ravens. Did they have an inside scoop that Buffalo fell short of?
“We will not build our offensive game plans around our punter… We hope we don’t major in punting.” – Rex Ryan
STRANGER THINGS? No. 3 quarterback Matt Barkley punted last Friday against the Panthers.
“Nobody normal ever accomplished anything meaningful in this world.” – Jonathan Byers
Danny White of the Dallas Cowboys, back in the mid 1980s, was the last player to hold the duties full time as a punter and quarterback. White took over when Roger Staubach retired. White was considered by many to be “normal”.
“If you lose your best cornerback and punter, I’d say that’s a double loss.” – John Madden
Things we know about the Buffalo Bills this week:
Sam Martin has been one of the most consistent punters in the league since being drafted in 2013. He has signed as the new punter of the Buffalo Bills.
“He’s a guy that’s really good at directional punting, placing the ball, especially if you’re talking getting it from minus 40 or minus 45, over to the plus side, those areas where you’re trying to get them not only inside the 20, but down closer to the 10. You didn’t see him missing and booting those balls in the end zone a lot. It’s that sand wedge shot, getting to stick. I think that’s the best thing.” – Brandon Beane
The Reserve/PUP list is where Tre’Davious White will begin the first four weeks of the season. Brandon Beane would not commit to White playing in Week 5 but proclaims him to be in a very good place right now.
WR Isaiah Hodgins, RB Duke Johnson, and Raheem Blackshear signed to the Buffalo Bills practice squad after failing to catch on the final 53-MAN roster.
OL Jacob Capra, OL Tanner Owen, WR Neil Pau’u, DE Daniel Joseph, DB Jordan Miller, DB Josh Thomas were some other notable cuts this week.
