The Bills are getting some league-wide respect. We are talking about some tough ones to please like Colin Cowherd and “Prime Time” Deion Sanders. Brandon Beane has an aggressive reputation. He will be conducting the Bills draft from his basement at his house based on social distancing requirements.
Some of the causes for the Bills not being dismissed as a fluke has to do with Tom Brady now in the NFC in Tampa Bay. No more AFC East automatic losses. He was not the MVP level weapon last season though. The defense was the primary feature of the AFC East champions last season. One can not rule out that Brady managed the games well and made enough plays post-Gronkowski, to take home another division title. Dismissing the Patriots who still are run by Bill Belichick is a very dangerous gamble. Remember the Patriots won 11 games with Matt Cassel several years back. He only completed 20 passes for the Trojans, failing to toss a touchdown throughout his college career. He was able to pull off tossing one pick, so he was not shut out in all categories. I always have to remind myself that Cassel happened to be in California at a time that Carson Palmer was winning the Heisman trophy. Matt Leinart was also making a name for himself, which did not quite carry over to the NFL.
The Tom Brady Factor is not isolated to football experts jumping on the Bills’ Train. Two playoff appearances in three seasons is huge. Especially after the extremely long playoff drought. Ten wins was huge. They’ve had a top defense since Mcdermott and Frazier arrived.
Some are worried that the Bills have a difficult schedule coming up. Others fear the missing element of surprise that comes along with no longer being the regular routine underdog. I say take care of your own house. Win the games you are supposed to win. Steal a game or two. McDermott practices a positive discontent discipline both on the field as well as building the culture. Beane has done a superb job replenishing the talent pool as well as adding to it.
Go for the wins now while Josh Allen is on his rookie contract. Just win baby!
Things we know about the Buffalo Bills this week:
- The Bills have inked the second offensive lineman this offseason. Evan Boehm started eight games for the Miami Dolphins last season. He was a fourth-round draft pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2016. He has played both center and guard, which we know Brandon Beane really prefers.
- Brandon Beane and the Bills front office have been setting up their social distancing draft war rooms at their homes. Roger Goodell is also going to be announcing the picks from his home. This will indeed be a very interesting draft in many ways up to and including the actual players the teams select.
- Dr. Anthony Fauci has made it clear that professional sports can certainly return in 2020. No fans in the stadiums with players staying in huge hotels while being tested for the coronavirus on a regular basis. Obviously, this would be the basic foundation of the much more complicated strategy.
