Buffalo Bills: Things We Know This Week

“Sometimes you can be one of the best, but you don’t accept that if you don’t get the ring or win the Super Bowl. There’s a lot of good teams between the Super Bowl winner and other teams. Once the Super Bowl is over, we lump everyone into the other 31, and that’s not fair.” – John Madden
What was my biggest takeaway from the Super Bowl? Quite simple: The Buffalo Bills are not only good enough to take the next step and participate in the big show. They are actually good enough to win the whole thing. They could have and should have taken home the Lombardi this year.
“The thing we found out was, when you get to a Super Bowl, both teams are treated the same; talked about in glowing terms. But when the game is over, only the team that won matters.” – Don Shula
I have come to agree with those who claimed the “real” Super Bowl took place at Arrowhead when the Bills Mafia came to town. The two best teams, with the most electric quarterbacks, left everything on the field in the classic matchup. Nothing in the two championship games and the Super Bowl were even close to what we witnessed between Buffalo and KC. That includes the Super Bowl halftime show.
“I believe that a bad Super Bowl halftime show is still better than a soccer game.” – Ron White
It was palpable that the officiating team made some make-up calls in favor of the Rams towards very the end of the game. Had the Bengals won that game, the focus would be magnified on the touchdown Tee Higgins scored. All Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey fell forward on the play, clearing the way for Higgins to trot into the end zone uncontested. Looking closer, Higgins grabbed Ramsey’s face mask while the ball was in the air. Shame on the officials for not acting on that obvious violation. At that point of the game, the momentum certainly flipped in favor of the Ohio based team.
“Their offense is shakier than Katherine Hepburn after an all-night espresso bender at Starbucks.” – Dennis Miller
Watching the Rams attempt to establish a running attack was painful at times. In the end, the Rams got the jewelry. That is the team I was cheering for. I was happy that Mathew Stafford, high school classmate of Clayton Kershaw, was able to escape from Detroit Rock City and experience an abundance of postseason success in his first season on the West Coast.
“Gambling, beer, and football filled the horizons of their minds.” – George Orwell
I was also satisfied that the Bengals do not come off that list of teams still unable to secure a Super Bowl victory that Buffalo loiters on.
“No one, and I mean no one, comes into our house and pushes us around.” – Dan Devine (RUDY)
