Buffalo Bills Sign Running Back T.J Yeldon

The Buffalo Bills have signed former Jaguars running back T.J Yeldon to a two year contract.

The Buffalo Bills have signed former Jacksonville Jaguars running back T.J Yeldon to a two-year deal per Adam Schefter and the Bills official Twitter account. The monetary terms are unknown at the publication of this article.

Adding the 25-year-old running back is a move that adds youth to the Bills running back room. He also brings four years of solid NFL experience. An early second-round pick out of Alabama, Yeldon carries some decent value. He mostly serves as a 3rd down pass catching back. His rookie season in 2015 he had 740 yards and caught 36 balls in 12 games. His 2016 season he caught 50 balls but didn’t even produce 500 yards on the ground. This lead to the Jaguars drafting Leonard Fournette in the first round in 2017. That pick delegated Yeldon to mainly passing down work only. With Fournette injured/suspended in 2018, Yeldon caught 55 balls.

Yeldon will join LeSean McCoy, Frank Gore, Marcus Murphy, Keith Ford, Senorise Perry, and Christian Wade in the running back room. With McCoy and Gore becoming free agents after this season, Yeldon could be brought in to become a future asset on the roster. He could learn from the veterans this season and be a primary option in 2020. In 2019, Yeldon could take some of the load off of McCoy and be a pass catching, pass blocking, 3rd down back for the Bills. His youth and pass-catching skills will have value on the roster this season but could also have future value.

Yeldon is just more solid depth for the Bills. A running back in the draft this week is now appearing more unlikely unless they choose to do so late on day three. Buffalo has now signed 18 unrestricted free agents and 19 free agents in total. Wide receiver Duke Williams from the CFL does not count as an NFL unrestricted free agent. Of those 19, 15 of them are offensive players while only four of them are defensive players.
