Buffalo Bills Scouting Report: CB Trent McDuffie

There’s been a lot of movement recently in free agency, and the Buffalo Bills brought back Ryan “Rick” Bates and Ike Boettger. This means that the first round can be used on a more important position, like cornerback. Pick #25 should, therefore, be used on Washington CB Trent McDuffie, or trade up for him. He has the potential to be a day one starter.

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 193 lbs

Wingspan: 72 3/8”

+ Aggressiveness: McDuffie is on the smaller side compared to many of the other cornerback in this draft class. But combine this with his strength and speed and McDuffie can hit like a damn bullet. His aggressiveness makes for excellent tackling, both after the catch and for taking out an RB. Not to mention the IQ for punching out the ball.

+ Speed: Trent is wicked fast. Posting an official 4.44 at the combine, he can keep up with the best WRs in the league. Not only that, but he seemingly appears as if from no where in the backfield, usually dropping a rusher behind the LOS or just after they gain a couple yards. The Bills have struggled with ground defence all through the season, McDuffie could be the answer to those problems.

+ Intelligence: This guy also has a football IQ higher than most. He is able to track the ball like no other I’ve seen and can follow route-runners, sticking to them like glue. Of the 296 pass plays McDuffie defended, only 16 resulted in catches (PFF). With skills like these, he can play across any scheme.

– Size: The only weakness I see, is that he is smaller than the average CB. However, as already discussed, this doesn’t affect his ability to play at an elite level. Also, it’s an advantage for the Bills because it means that he can drop down the board, comfortably to #25.

So, why does he belong on the Buffalo Bills?

Does it really need to be explained? Trent McDuffie has the talent to be a top CB in the league by the end of his first season. Pair him with White and the Bills will be unstoppable. After all that’s happened these last few weeks, it’s not a reach to think that a CB will be the Bills’ first pick. And, after watching McDuffie’s tape, it should be him.

Much like Marty McFly, Trish Patel (aka Tyler Bass Enthusiast) is a time traveller who stole a sports almanac so as to fool you mortals into believing that she can predict the stats of a game.
