Bills Roster Breakdown (2023): WR

The Buffalo Bills wanted to get better at wide receiver this offseason after a handful of injuries, along with a lot of drops by Gabe Davis and Stefon Diggs. And they definitely got better at the position, as they added Trent Sherfield, Deonte Harty, and Justin Shorter, along with some UDFAs and Marcell Ateman from the XFL.

In addition, the wide receiver room doesn’t have too many older WRs, as Stefon Diggs (29) is the eldest in the room. For a team that needs to shape their roster with younger players, the Bills are doing a great job of building the position for the future.

Let’s take a look at all of the wide receivers on Buffalo’s roster, which now has a total of 13 receivers after this offseason.

Bills WR Stats

Stefon Diggs: First Team All-Pro (2020), Second Team All-Pro (2022), three-time Pro Bowler (2020-2022); 338 receptions, 4,189 yards, and 29 TDs in three seasons with Buffalo.

Gabe Davis: Most receiving TDs in a playoff game (4); 1,984 yards and 20 TDs in three seasons.

Deonte Harty: First Team All-Pro (2019), Pro Bowler (2019), PFWA All-Rookie team (2019); 793 yards, four receiving TDs, one punt return TD.

Training Camp Battles

Slot: Deonte Harty vs. Khalil Shakir

Practice Squad: Marcell Ateman vs. Tyrell Shavers

The Bills expect to have a tough training camp battle for the starting slot position between Khalil Shakir and Deonte Harty, which is a vast improvement from last year with Isaiah McKenzie taking the majority of the reps. Most of Buffalo’s rostered receivers can play slot, actually. Trent Sherfield and Gabe Davis all have experience playing the slot position as well, Sherfield with the Dolphins and Davis against the Chiefs in 2021.

This is likely just the start of Buffalo reshaping their WR room. With Davis’ contract expiring after this season, and Diggs needing a competent WR2, the Buffalo Bills could look to add to it with their 10 draft picks next year in a loaded class.
