Buffalo Bills, Wild Card, Pittsburgh Steelers, Game Recap

Orchard Park, N.Y. – What a game this turned out being. Arguably one of the best games this weekend, as the Buffalo Bills defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-17. The offense seemed to gain control of the game for most of the first half. That is up until the Steelers blocked Tyler Bass’ FG, and secured their first touchdown of the game. After that, up until the fourth quarter, the Steelers had the momentum on their side. Buffalo regained control after a Khalil Shakir spinning touchdown. So, what happened in the game?

Countless defensive injuries

Way too many injuries to count, much like last week against Miami. Let’s tally them up:

  • Punter Sam Martin (leg), returned to the game.
  • Taron Johnson (head), remained out.
  • Terrel Bernard (ankle), carted off the field in an air cast.
  • Stefon Diggs (mid injury), returned to the game.
  • Baylon Spector (back), remained out.
  • Christian Benford (knee), remained out.
  • Connor McGovern (unclear), returned after one play.

We’ll get updates on these injuries, as well as last week’s, this week.

How about Khalil Shakir!

Shakir might have had his best day as a pro. As previously mentioned, he spun off a tackle and scored a 17-yard touchdown to give Buffalo a two-score lead. That was Shakir’s first career playoff TD. He finished the day with three receptions for 31 yards and one TD.

AJ Klein stepped up on short notice

Kudos to AJ Klein. Came off his couch on Thursday and, by Monday, he’s playing meaningful snaps in a playoff game. And he played very well, too. He forced a big stop on third down against Jaylen Warren to seal the game. If Dodson, Bernard, or Spector are out next week, Klein’s the next man up.

Bills secure fourth consecutive Wild Card victory

The Bills secured their fourth victory in there wild card round today, and their sixth straight victory of the season. Big time play by the team after starting off 6-6.

The Bills will force Patrick Mahomes to play his first career road playoff game, and another home playoff game for Buffalo, which should be in better conditions.
