Buffalo Bills Players to Watch: Week 9

After a much-needed win last week vs the Dolphins, the Buffalo Bills will play the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. This is another must-win game. The Jags have been struggling this year, compiling a 1-6 record so far (their only win coming against the Dolphins). The Bills need to continue to beat up on the bottom-feeders of the AFC. They also must continue to improve in all aspects of the game. In the last game, there was some things that needed to be cleaned up – the most prominent being the offensive line play.

Offensive Line Struggles

Some of the Bills starting offensive linemen are injured, including Spencer Brown (back) and Jon Feliciano (calf). Both of them likely won’t play this week. In that case, as mentioned by The Air Raid Hour (@theBillsGuys on twitter), the projected starters for this game are as follows:

  • LT: Dion Dawkins
  • LG: Ike Boettger
  • C: Mitch Morse
  • RG: Cody Ford
  • RT: Daryl Williams

Last week, the Bills offensive line struggled in both run and pass blocking. Since they will be without two starters, the Bills need to ease these players into the game. Start the offensive line off with some easy pass protections and run plays. This week, the Bills need to stick to the quick hits in the passing game (i.e. drags and slants) to get the ball out fast. That way, the line will only have to protect Allen for a couple seconds. In the run game, our offensive line is better at a power run scheme – where they can move up field and work their way to the linebackers. This group will have to play well in this game not just to win, but to ensure there won’t be a significant drop off should Brown and Feliciano miss significant time.

Pass Rushers

The Jaguars have lost two of their best three running backs and have a rookie QB. From a defensive perspective, a rookie QB with minimal help in the run game should make for a great game for the Bills pass rushers. With the Jaguars having little to no run game the Bills should be able to send the rush and won’t really have to worry about getting beat by the run.

I expect to see at least three different players with sacks in this game. Not only will the Bills pass rush result in sacks, but turnovers as well. Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence has been sacked 11 times this year and has thrown nine interceptions. If the Bills can get a good rush out of the defensive line, this will be another tough day for Lawrence. I think Lawrence turns the ball over at least twice this game.

This should be another win for the Buffalo Bills and it shouldn’t be close. The Bills need to make this a convincing win and dominate in all three aspects of the game.
