Buffalo Bills Overreactions: Week 2

Published

on

Well, what a resounding win that was. To beat the Tennessee Titans in that fashion, at home, and get over that hurdle they haven’t been able to the past two matchups is fantastic. The Buffalo Bills dominated in every facet of the game. From the offense to the special teams, everybody played at an elite level. So let’s overreact a bit…

1.) Punt more often!

No, please don’t. But how fantastic did Sam Martin look? The Titans muffed two of his three punts; one was recovered by Buffalo, and the other should have been. Martin bombed all of his punts, with a long of 57, and an average of 48.3 yards. Two of them went inside the 20 yard line. I think we need to come up with a nickname for him. Maybe “Muff God”?

2.) Fullbacks DO matter.

What a game for Reggie Gilliam, totaling 17 yards and one TD on two receptions. Allen looked his way plenty of times and relied on him on the opening drive. Gilliam played 18 snaps (26%) during the game and made the most of his reps. Maybe the Bills should give Gilliam more snaps as a receiver?

3.) Josh Allen/Stefon Diggs = Jim Kelly/Andre Reed

Is Josh Allen/Stefon Diggs this generation’s Jim Kelly/Andre Reed? 100%. Allen & Diggs have had a fantastic relationship on and off the field since the pair united in 2020 and, this year, it’s getting stronger. Allen targeted Diggs nine more times than any other receiver last night, and the Titans had no answer for him. If their on field connection gets even stronger throughout the year, a title run is absolutely in play for this Bills team.

4.) Jake Kumerow taking advantage of the void at WR.

Kumerow was the receiver that really benefited from the absence of Gabe Davis, and it’s something that Buffalo Bills fans, and the team, have been waiting for for a while. He had three targets, hauling in two of them for 50 yards, including a deep 39-yard connection down the sideline. Kumerow may have an added role in the future, especially if the Bills suffer another injury like Gabe’s.
