The Buffalo Bills (2-1) head down to Kansas City to take on the Kansas City Chiefs (1-1-1) in week 4 of the Buffalo Fanatics Madden Sim. After a dominating victory over the Los Angeles Rams last week, the Bills are looking to improve their record to 3-1 on Sunday. Here are five keys to Sunday’s game.
This goes without saying, but if the Bills want to come out of Arrowhead Stadium with a win they must find a way to slow down Patrick Mahomes. Notice I said slow down, rather than stop. That’s because it’s impossible to completely shut him down. Last week the Chargers found out the hard way on what happens when you can’t contain Mahomes. He threw five touchdowns and the Chiefs won 38-14. It will be the defense’s toughest task yet and should be interesting to see what Sean McDermott and Leslie Frazier do against Mahomes and that potent aerial attack for the Chiefs.
Control the time of possession
The best way to beat the Chiefs is to control the clock and keep drives alive. That means running the football will be key in this game. The Bills struggled to run the ball effectively last week. They only rushed for 65 yards on the Rams defense. They have to run the football much better on Sunday. The less Mahomes is on the field the better it will be for the Bills.
The matchup we’ve been waiting for
Since Josh Allen entered the league in 2018 the ongoing debate has been, “who has the better arm, Allen or Mahomes?” Although we probably won’t know after this game it should be very entertaining to see these two quarterbacks go head-to-head. The abilities of both these quarterbacks are rare and both of these quarterbacks are winners. Could this be the start of a Brady vs. Manning rivalry in the AFC for years to come? We’ll get to see chapter one on Sunday.
The SWAT Team vs. The Legion of Zoom
Allen vs. Mahomes isn’t the only anticipated matchup in this game, but so is the Bills secondary against the Chiefs receivers. Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer are considered to be one of the best safety tandems in the NFL and Tre’Davious White is a shutdown corner, they will put up to the test against the likes of Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Sammy Watkins and Mecole Hardman. It should be very fun to watch these two dominant units go against each other.
The O.G. vs the disciple
Sean McDermott worked under Andy Reid with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2001 to 2010 as an assistant coach. Now the two are head coaches of the best teams in the entire AFC. McDermott got the best of Reid in their first time against each over in 2017. The Bills won 16-10 on a Tre’Davious White game-sealing interception thrown by Alex Smith. Will Reid get his revenge or will McDermott get the best of his former boss a second time?
It should be an exciting game on Sunday between two teams who believe they are contenders to win the AFC. It should be hard found game, by Mahomes, and that Chiefs offense is on a whole different level than anything the Bills defense has faced under McDermott.
Prediction: Chiefs: 38 Bills: 31
