Welcome to the first installment of the ”Buffalo Bills Gameday Playlist” series. Each week, I’ll try and fit in songs from artists from Buffalo, from the team we’re playing, and songs that fit storylines going into each game.
The Illest Villains – Madvillany
The intro to our very first ever song on our first ever game day playlist, The Illest Villains is a sample track dedicated to describing Madlib & MF DOOM’s devilish personas and overall power as a frightening duo. Much like Josh Allen & Stefon Diggs – “To shock women into uncontrolled hysteria” could be the announcers call when 17 & 14 take the field.
The Boys are Back in Town – Thin Lizzy
An all-time classic, I know this will be the car-ride to the stadium song. Now get the whole family singing: “Buffalo Bills football is back IN TOWN!!!”
The Iron Curtain – Benny the Butcher
What’s a Buffalo Bills playlist without Benny the Butcher. This song in particular sounds like a really dramatic funeral tune. So I suppose The Iron (err, Steel) Curtain won’t make it past Sunday.
Return of the Mack – Mark Morrison
Another all-time classic that just makes too much sense to put in here, much like The Boys Are Back In Town. Get the whole family singing along!
Hold On, We’re Going Home – Drake
Drake’s CLB might be a fuming toilet bowl of fake encounters and pretentious lyrics, but his old stuff is still so good. When listening to this song, think about how long it’s been since the Buffalo Bills were on the field. How much you miss being shoulder to shoulder with fellow Mafia members. How long it’s been since welcoming the boys out of the tunnel. We’re almost home.
Fire – KIDS SEE GHOSTS
I love the lyrics on this song and how they fit with the squad. “I love all your s*** talking … you ain’t got nothin’ better to do with yourself … I done proved to myself”, etc. Plus Kid Cudi’s humming is the most melodic thing in the world.
Time Today – Moneybagg Yo
A testament to Josh’s payday, Moneybagg Yo depicts how he indeed has time today, and anyone that steps to him is getting washed. So, fellow NFL teams, don’t mess with Moneybagg Josh and this team, or else.
Party on Fifth Ave. – Mac Miller
Today marks 3 years since Mac Miller’s passing. He was a Pittsburgh native and often sported Steelers and Pirates gear on his come up in the rap game. Now look, I’m not from Buffalo so idk if there is a “Fifth Ave.” there. But, if there is, please make sure to party there when the Buffalo Bills beat Pittsburgh by 30. For Mac.
Work Hard, Play Hard – Wiz Khalifa
Another Pittsburgh legend, Wiz Khalifa actually came up with Mac Miller at the same time. And they looked to dominate the rap game and put Pittsburgh on the map in terms of hip-hop. That all stopped when Wiz Khalifa released this song, which has since become the anthem for: 4th grade tag players, anyone with a peloton, that crazy kid on your high-school football team that tackles head-first STRICTLY. Listen to this ironically and try not to laugh.
Send Me on My Way – Rusted Root
Our last Pittsburgh artist, Rusted Root is the anthem for all pickleball & hacky-sack players across the nation. They’re one of my Pop’s favorite bands ever and it was hard to pick exactly which song to add to the playlist. But then I thought about playing this song after beating Pittsburgh and it just makes too much sense.
