Bills Free Agency Week 1 Recap (2024)

Buffalo Bills, Free Agency, Curtis Samuel

Well, the Buffalo Bills had a fairly eventful first week of free agency. For the most part, they stuck with bringing their own guys back. But they did bring in three outside guys, including two pass catchers. They came to agreements with WRs Mack Hollins and Curtis Samuel Jr, along with LB Nicholas Morrow. The Bills still have holes to fill, and there are still decent free agents they could get for a reasonable price. But, let’s take a look at the guys we brought in.

Curtis Samuel

Samuel was the last draft pick that Brandon Beane helped make as the Assistant GM with the Carolina Panthers. He was productive in Carolina, totaling 2,087 yards and 14 TDs receiving, including 478 yards and five TDs rushing. Joe Brady got the most success out of Samuel in Carolina, with 1,051 total yards and five TDs in 2020. Samuel joins a WR room that’s in the middle of a rebuild, with Gabe Davis and Trent Sherfield departing. The speedy Samuel can play all across the field, but mainly at slot WR, leaving Khalil Shakir as the backup again.

Mack Hollins

Hollins returns to the AFCE, but this time as a Buffalo Bill. Hollins was a member of the Miami Dolphins from 2019-2021. He saw the most success with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022, where he totaled 690 yards and four TDs, becoming one of Derek Carr’s favorite deep threats that year. Hollins will likely compete more as a special teamer on the Bills, and is a cheaper option than Siran Neal and Tyler Matakevich.

Nicholas Morrow

Morrow comes over from the Philadelphia Eagles, where he spent 2023 as the defensive playcaller and started 12 games. While Morrow isn’t known for his coverage ability, Morrow provides nice depth for the Bills, who lost Tyrel Dodson to the Seattle Seahawks. It also gives the Bills some insurance in case Matt Milano can’t go Week 1. If things go well, the Bills won’t see Morrow on the field much at all.

The Bills also brought back RB Ty Johnson on a one year deal, DT DaQuan Jones on a two year/$16M deal, DE AJ Epenesa on a two year deal, and DB Cam Lewis on a two year deal.
