BREAKING: Bills Trade Lee Smith

The Buffalo Bills have agreed to trade TE Lee Smith to the Atlanta Falcons for a 2022 seventh-round pick, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. It is unknown at this time if there are any conditions attached to the draft pick (i.e. Andre Smith).
Smith, a 2011 fifth-round pick of the New England Patriots, was entering the last year of the three-year, $9 million contract he signed prior to the 2019 season. According to Spotrac, the Bills incur no dead cap, while saving $2.25 million on this year’s cap.
The 33-year old blocking TE ended his second stint in Buffalo with four receptions, 35 receiving yards, and two touchdowns in 10 games in 2020 (per Pro Football Reference).
Brandon Beane had previously commented on the state of the TE position in his end-of-season press conference:
“It was never where I felt the opposing defense was like man, we got to stop their tight ends from going off.”

With the move, it seems the Bills GM may make good on his word.
