The Buffalo Bills have announced the signing of former Dolphins Punter Matt Haack. According to Mike Garafolo (NFL Network), the deal is for three years, $5.5 million ($3.25 million guaranteed). Haack can earn up to an additional $1.5 million in incentives over the term of the deal.
The 26-year-old Arizona State product has spent his entire career in Miami. In 64 games, Haack has recorded 307 punts for an average of 44.7 yards/punt. He is Miami’s all-time leader in net yards per punt average (39.9). The left-footed Haack excels at pinning opponents deep in their own territory, having had 114 punts downed inside the 20-yard line in his career. He currently holds the single-season Dolphins record in that category (34 in 2018). Also, he has been known to partake in the occasional trick play.
His signing likely spells the end of Corey Bojorquez’s tenure in Buffalo. Bojo is coming off a career year in 2020. He averaged 50.8 yards per punt on just 41 punts in 2020, the best in the league and fourth-highest average in a single-season since 1939 (according to Pro Football Reference).
