Former Syracuse Orange defender and Rochester, NY native Chandler Jones has officially requested a trade out of Arizona. This comes as a definite surprise to the NFL landscape. The Cards were looking right for a full house this season with additions like J.J. Watt, A.J. Green, Zaven Collins, and Rondale Moore. All the moving around in the front office seem to have ticked Jones the wrong way. Furthermore, stagnant contract negotiations with Cardinals GM Steve Keim have al but exacerbated the situation
As a non-biased Bills fan, it’s easy to say and daydream about Chandler Jones coming back to Western New York and putting up 15+ sacks with a team that desperately needs edge help. However, there are multiple negative factors that could hurt us down the road; factors that will be covered in this piece. According to Bills Mafia, how realistic is a Chandler Jones to Buffalo trade?

To the two of you who voted for a 100% guarantee of a Chandler Jones trade – I admire your optimism. Jones, being the elite edge rusher that he is, would be expensive to go out and get. His current trade value is likely in the realm of a day two pick, a contract filler, and a young Receiver or Edge Rusher. Hypothetically, the Bills would have to send a second, Mario Addison and Gabe Davis. Is that worth it? Jones is 31 and in the last year of his contract. Who’s to say he wouldn’t just leave after one year with Buffalo?
Optimism for this trade with Arizona seems to be low, as barely any people see the Jones trade even happening. (A combined 5.4% to be precise.) One positive is our contention window. When looking at the rest of the D-Line, all of the personnel are either older or young and unfinished. Yes, Beane invested heavily in D-Line in the draft. But there is no way in hell Rousseau and Basham even combine for the numbers that Jones would put up. If Beane wants a Super Bowl ring, he should at least shoot Arizona a text.
Not Happening (35.3%)
We see a huge jump in votes here as roughly three out of every eight people who voted don’t see this trade happening at all. Furthermore, they seem confused as to why it is even being talked about. The need for an elite Edge Rusher is high, but selling future assets such as Gabe Davis or A.J. Epenesa just doesn’t seem worth it. Trust has been a huge part in building the culture and bringing winning football back to Western New York. So, if Beane were to trade for Chandler Jones, I could understand if the locker room were jolted. As of right now, the team seems complete and it would be wise for the front office to trust in their previous draft picks (their “Process”). Perhaps they look at Jones in free agency next year if they need more help.
The perfect bridge between wanting Chandler Jones and keeping our youth movement on the D-Line seems to be “Unlikely” as over 50% voted this way. There likely isn’t a Bills fan out there who would be opposed to bringing Jones in, but the negatives seem to be bolded.
He’s 31 years old on a one-year deal worth $15.5 million. Jones just simply isn’t a player to invest in, he’s more of a final piece guy. If Beane is going to seriously negotiate to acquire the two-time First-Team All-Pro, then he best be prepared to ship some guys with serious potential.
IF this trade happens, then we know one thing for certain: the Bills organization believes that this is a Super Bowl squad. We already know the fan-base thinks it is, but we’ll happily be in the same mindset as the front-office.

P.S. Would Kyle Williams allow Chandler Jones to rock 95? I’m torn.
