The Buffalo Bills have a new slot receiver in Jamison Crowder. While he is a good player, he carries significant injury risk. Although he was a low-risk investment financially, the Bills would be wise to have a backup plan for 2022 and beyond.

In his first three seasons, Crowder only missed one game. He dealt with minor hamstring ailments over that time span. However, in his fourth season, he had his first major injury. A high-ankle sprain caused him to miss seven games of the season.

Over the past two seasons, Crowder has missed nine games. Furthermore, over the past four seasons, he has missed 16 games. Although he was a low-risk investment financially, the Bills would be wise to have a backup plan for 2022 and beyond.

In 2019, his first year with the Jets, Crowder played the full season. This was arguably the best season of his career. Unfortunately, the past two seasons raise a lot of questions for future availability. Crowder has been dealing with calf and more hamstring issues the past two seasons. He has missed four and five games, respectively, for 2020 and 2021.

In summary, Jamison Crowder will likely deal with some type of soft tissue injury in 2022. Fortunately, the Bills have a progressive medical team and first-class facilities. This will certainly mitigate some risk, but can Crowder avoid a big one?

It should be noted that both Emmanuel Sanders and O.J. Howard ruptured their Achilles tendons after high ankle sprains.
