Buffalo Bills NFL Draft

Thursday Thought: Five players fans should keep their eyes on at the Senior Bowl

With the Senior Bowl coming up this weekend here are five players that Bills fans should watch closely.

This weekend one of the biggest offseason events is about to take place, the Senior Bowl. It’s an all-star game formed by the best seniors in all of college football, but more importantly, an opportunity for players to show off to scouts, general managers, and coaches to improve their draft stock.

It’s also an important event for the Buffalo Bills as Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane have been ones who value the Senior Bowl tremendously. Who should Bills fans keep an eye on? Who would fit with the Bills well? This week’s Thursday Thought: Five players fans should keep their eyes on at the Senior Bowl.

  1. WR Brandon Aiyuk – Arizona State

Aiyuk is a wide receiver who gets down the field vertically and makes big plays. This is proven by his yards per reception this year, which ranked 29th in the nation at 18.3 yards. He is also a versatile player as he was a returner for Arizona State as well as their number one receiver. Aiyuk has got good size (6’1” 206 lbs) and on film, it looks like he’s got good speed. He popped up medically at the Senior Bowl this week, but if he can play this weekend, keep an eye on Aiyuk.

2. WR Collin Johnson – Texas

Johnson had a disappointing senior season after a really strong junior campaign which saw him nearly top 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns. His biggest attribute is his size as he stands at 6’6” and 220 lbs. Johnson is excellent in the red zone and is the type of receiver the Bills do not have on their roster. Johnson could be a draft board riser if he has a good week in Mobile.

3. RB Eno Benjamin – Arizona State

Sticking with another Sun Devil in Eno Benjamin, who could be a great addition to the Bills. Benjamin is an explosive, shifty running back who has a lot of similar traits to Bears running back Tarik Cohen. He’s a smaller back, who is more of a playmaker than a consistent every-down back. However, the Bills need playmakers on offense and Benjamin is that.

4. WR Michael Pittman Jr. – USC

Michael Pittman Jr. is another wide receiver worth watching this weekend in Mobile. Pittman Jr. has a big frame at 6’4” and 220 lbs. and is the definition of a possession receiver. Pittman had 101 receptions this past season which ranked fourth nationally, as he was USC’s go-to target throughout the entire season. He also put up impressive numbers despite having three different starting quarterbacks this season.

5. EDGE Kenny Willekes – Michigan State

Finally, a defensive player. For the Bills, pass rusher is certainly one the higher priorities for them to fill this offseason and Willekes does exactly that. In three seasons for the Spartans Willekes had a combined 26 sacks including 10.5 sacks in 2019. He’s a high motor pass rusher who has very good size (6’4” 260 lbs.) and has had a good amount of production in college. Good production in college usually translates over to the pros when it comes to rushing the passer.
