Strengths:
– Will Grier has been seen as a leader in Morgantown for the last two seasons
– Has excellent timing on most throws
– Accuracy down the field is reliable
– Can climb the pocket when it starts to collapse
– Has been known to craft some plays pre-snap
– Grier has had some big wins and clutch late comebacks vs the Oklahoma Sooners Texas Longhorns
Weaknesses:
– Will Grier doesn’t have elite arm talent due to lack of a lower body drive
– Played in a conference where offenses thrive
– His mechanics and consistency can be rattled by relentless pressure
– Grier also had several costly turnovers in the red zone.
– Sometimes, he has issues getting the ball out fast enough which will result in getting sacked more at the next level
Overall:
Will Grier seems like a good but not great signal caller, could be seen as a career back-up in the pros. Looked promising all year long, however a lackluster Senior Bowl performance made his draft stock take a severe hit. While he can climb the pocket well, Grier will have to win inside the pocket as it seems his ability to escape the pocket is severely limited. Will Grier has the gunslinger mentality; however might lack the NFL arm to do so.
NFL Comparison: Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals
NFL Draft Projection: 3rd – 4th Round Pick
